The UAE – a leading tourism destination in the region
The United Arab Emirates are located in the Southeast of the Arabian Peninsula, joining Oman and Saudi Arabia. In 1971 the UAE became a federation of six emirates. These emirates include Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm al-Quwain, and Fujairah. However, the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah joined the federation in 1972. Dubai is the largest city in the country, and Abu Dhabi is the capital city in the emirate. Now the UAE has made its mark in the world as a leading tourism destination.
The UAE has seen the creation of airlines like Emirates and Etihad Airways, airports, a metro station, shopping malls and other major attractions in last 42 years. Christopher Hewett said, “According to data by Dubai Chamber, the UAE’s tourism sector is expected to grow by 6.5% annually between 2011 and 2021”. The main tourist attractions are as follow:
The Burj Khalifa is the main attraction of Dubai all around the world. With 829.8 meter length and more than 160 stories, Burj Khalifa is currently the tallest building in the world. The observation is that the 124th floor is worth visiting as it gives a great view of the city. Around 5:30 AM is the meeting time at the top of Burj Khalifa. At this, you can see the city while it is still dark and observe the sunrise and see the city in day light. The morning view is only available for two days in a week (i.e. Friday and Saturday). Otherwise, regular viewing is at 8:00 am.
Sheikh Zayed Mosque, Abu Dhabi
The Sheikh Zayed Mosque is situated in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the UAE. It is one of the unusual structure of contemporary Islamic architecture in the world. It is one of the huge mosques in the world having a capacity of 40,000 worshippers. Sheikh Zayed was died in 2004 and buried in the ground of mosque.
Sharjah Arts Museum
The doors of Sharjah Arts Museum had been open since 1996. The museum displays the permanent collection of artworks on the Ground Floor. You can explore the history of the region through the beautiful masterpieces of local painters and Arab artist who have left a significant mark in the local and Arab art world.
Al-Bidyah Mosque is located in the Bidyah region of Fujairah. It is the oldest mosque in the UAE. Badria Mohammad, who is in charge of the mosque says: “We do not know who built this mosque. Even father’s of our parents do not know who built this mosque. There were no books or historical studies on who built it.”
A group of archaeologists from Australia took samples from the mosque in 1998 to find out how old the building was. The only historical evidence is the towers of a Portuguese fort, built behind the mosque about 200 years ago.
The Deserts of UAE are also the main attraction for tourists. The Bidayer Desert of Sharjah, the Al Faya Desert, the Liwa Desert and the Desert Safari are the famous desserts in UAE.
